The child accidentally fell into the river but was saved immediately.

Earlier this afternoon, a three-year-old girl fell from the Brian Boru bridge in Cork’s city centre and was saved after a vigilant passer-by witnessed the incident.

The Irish Mirror reports that the toddler was walking accompanied by an adult before suddenly slipping out of reach and fell into the River Lee.

The rescuer has been identified as Cobh woman Maria Daly and thanks to her heroic act, the child was thankfully uninjured.

Emergency services arrived at the scene soon after and took the child to Cork University Hospital.
