A garda investigation is underway in Convoy, Donegal.
The investigation has begun following the deaths of an elderly couple in a house there.
It is believed the man and woman were found by neighbours who subsequently contacted the gardaí.
The man who was in his 80s and the woman in her 70s were last seen yesterday afternoon.
The coroner for the county Donegal, Dr Denis McCauley, is currently on his way to the scene to carry out an examination.
Gardaí have sealed off the house where a forensic examination is also expected to be carried out.
The married couple were very well-known in the area.
A garda spokesman said:
"This is very fresh and we simply cannot say at this stage how they died. A full examination of the scene will be carried out to determine what direction our investigation will take."
According to a garda source, there was no sign of a break-in or of any trauma at the house where the married couple lived.
