Breaking: A human torso has been found off the coast of West Cork

It was found on Sunday by a fishing trawler.

According to reports, a French fishing trawler discovered the torso in one of its net while it was fishing along the coast.

Gardaí are said to be liaising with Spanish and French police after the alarm was raised on Sunday.

The remains of the human body were from the waist down and was still clothed. There were also documents on the body.

They were taken to Cork University Hospital where Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margaret Bolster will carry out a postmortem on the deceased.

The trawler was fishing some 180 nautical miles off the coast of Cork between Cork and Cornwall when the discovery was made.
