Police stand outside the house in Dunvegan Avenue where Mikaeel's body was found
The discovery followed an extensive police search which was assisted by members of the public and in addition over 500 calls were made to a dedicated phoneline set up to help find the little boy.
Police Scotland said on Saturday night that a 33-year-old woman had been arrested and charged in connection with the boy's death.
Assistant Chief Constable Malcolm Graham said: "Following formal identification, I can now confirm that a 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged in connection with Mikaeel's death.
"The woman is expected to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday."
