A British paedophile has been arrested and will reportedly be questioned in relation to the disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
Roderick MacDonald, who also uses the surname Robinson, was living in the Algarve in 2007 when the toddler went missing. He was arrested in Malta on Monday after being on the run for two years.
According to the Telegraph, the authorities want to speak to the 76-year-old in relation to a paedophile ring which may have been operating in the Algarve when Madeleine vanished.
MacDonald was deported from Portugal to Australia in 2010, accused of raping an eight-year-old girl. He served a six-month sentence in Australia for indecent assault before he moved to Thailand. The authorities then deported him back to the UK after finding out about his convictions.
At that time, he is said to have moved to Brighton where he targeted two sisters, aged five and seven. He fled before sentencing during which he was found guilty and handed a one-year prison sentence, suspended for two years in his absence.
MacDonald is wanted in the UK for absconding after being convicted of sexual assault.
