Brock Turner has appealed to have his sexual assault conviction overturned.

The Standford student was found guilty of sexual assault last year after he was accused of attacking a woman behind a dumpster while she was unconscious.

Turner’s victim penned an emotive letter to Turner saying that the attack “… distorted me, damaged me, almost broke me.”

He served three months in prison for the assault before being released late last year.

It has since been reported that Turner has filed a motion to have his sexual assault conviction overturned.

The motion, which was obtained by Buzzfeed, claims that Turner’s trial contained “a detailed and lengthy set of lies” and that the jury was given “extensive ‘behind-the-dumpster’ propaganda.”

The motion also argued that the sexual assault did not occur behind a dumpster but in a “completely open setting.”

John Tompkins, Turner’s legal adviser, stated that the attack was “not a crime.”

“It happened, but it was nowhere close to crime,” he said.

Following the jury’s verdict last year, Turner was ordered to add his name to the sex offender’s register.

He was originally given six months jail time but only served three months due to good behaviour.

Turner was convicted on three counts of sexual assault: assault with intent to commit rape of an intoxicated woman, sexually penetrating a woman with a foreign object, and sexually penetrating an unconscious woman with a foreign object.

His short sentencing was highly criticised by many.
