Broken Hearted Over Brooks? Find Out Your Rights To A Ticket Refund Here

The steps to take for securing that refund.

Her

We know there may be some broken hearts at the news today that the licence for two Garth Brooks gigs has been denied, with a possibility of the remaining three gigs being cancelled too.

With that disappointment, there’s also the fact that at least 160,000 fans who planned to head along to the event in Croke Park are now out of pocket.

Our friends over at the National Consumer Agency have some tips to share on how to secure a refund when a concert has been cancelled.

The main thing to realise is that if the event is cancelled, you have consumer rights and are entitled to a full refund for the price of the ticket.

So what are your next steps to getting a refund?

  • Information received at the time of purchase should include details on how to get a refund, but if these are not clear, or you’re unsure on how to process this, contact the seller or agent, or alternatively visit the seller’s website where they should have contact information available.
  • For transport or accommodation booked separately for the event, be sure to contact the provider ASAP to find out what the company’s terms are for cancellations and refunds. This will allow you time to consider your options for a refund, or plan alternative arrangements.
  • For tickets bought from a ticket reselling site, if the site is a business entity, you should still be entitled to a refund. In the case of private sellers, or those who bought tickets through host ticketing sites, this will be more difficult. If an event is cancelled ticket values are often refunded to the original purchaser and through the method of payment that was used. Contact the seller if this is an option to arrange a refund with the original agent.
  • Also note that if a ticket was paid for by credit card, the refund will be processed through this card.
