Worrying local media reports this evening from Belgium say that an explosion has taken place at Central Station in Brussels.

Further reports state that an individual wearing ‘an explosive belt’ has now been intercepted by police inside the railway station.

Witnesses on the ground stated that the incident looked “very serious,” while DailyMail.com claims that the suspect “has been gunned down and killed by soldiers”.
Police in the city stress that the situation is “under control”. At the moment, armed troops remain on the streets around the Grand Place and Central Station – both of which have been evacuated.
Shops and restaurants in the vicinity have been closed.

There are no reports of casualties, Reuters has said.
The area is extremely popular with tourists, and would have been particularly busy at the time.
In March of last year, 32 people died in attacks on Brussels airport and the metro system. The Islamic State group later claimed responsibility.
