The cabin crew on a Turkish Airlines flight went above and beyond by helping to deliver a baby girl mid-flight.

Nafi Diaby was 28 weeks pregnant when she went into premature labour onboard the aircraft shortly after it took off from Guinea’s capital Conakry in west Africa.

Baby Kadiju was delivered on Friday at 42,000 ft on board the Boeing 737-900 aircraft, which was en route to Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, about 1,350km east of Conakry.

Thankfully, and as confirmed by a Turkish Airlines statement, both baby and mother are currently safe and well.

In the aftermath, the airline has been tweeting a series of adorable pictures of the newborn alongside cabin crew members – including the pilot.

The news has garnered significant traction online, with a tweet containing a series of beautiful snaps attracting some 16K retweets over the past 48 hours.

Bouthayna Inanır, one of the flight attendants who helped with the birth, afterwards described: “The mother gave birth while standing, and we received help from several passengers.”

As a precaution, both new mama and her daughter were taken to hospital via ambulance to be kept under observation over the weekend.

Some delighted observers on Twitter have been questioning what the child’s place of birth would officially be registered as.

Expectant mothers are able to travel with most airlines until they are 36 weeks pregnant.
