The driver of the car was subsequently arrested by police in Marseille.

One person has been confirmed dead after a car was driven into two bus stops in the French city of Marseille on Monday morning.

According to the BBC, it is unclear whether or not the vehicle was driven deliberately into the bus shelters in the old port area of the city.

Police in France have advised people to avoid the area in the aftermath of the incident.

There are reports that there was also a similar incident at a bus shelter at a different part of the city on Monday morning, but there were no casualties as a result.
