Fantastic news.

Today RTÉ Radio One announced their new schedule for the coming year. Included in this change are some new additions both weekdays and weekends.

One major announcement is that Claire Byrne will now present News at One, Tuesdays t0 Thursdays (10pm – 11pm) alongside Aine Lawlor.

Claire Byrne’s previous Saturday show with RTÉ Radio One will now be taken over by Cormac Ó hEadhra from 1 – 2pm

Other changes include new presenters to takeover the Late Debate show. Sarah McInerney, Katie Hannon and Fiona Sweeney will rotate this slot on varying days.

Head of RTÉ Radio 1, Tom McGuire spoke with the Independent.ie on these new changes saying:

“The new presenting team of Áine and Claire on RTÉ Radio 1’s News at One is exceptionally strong by any measure. And the move of Cormac Ó hEadhra into weekend peak on RTÉ Radio 1 is testament to his proven skills both on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta and standing in on such shows as Today with Sean O’Rourke.”

He continued…

“Sarah, Fionnuala and Katie – our three new presenters on Late Debate bring with them some truly excellent experience from the world of print, television and international journalism, and I’m delighted to welcome them all to Radio 1, and indeed to welcome Fionnuala Sweeney back to RTÉ from CNN.”

Claire Byrne will continue presenting Claire Byrne Live every Monday night alongside this new venture. All changes will commence from February.
