Ennis has been declared the cleanest town in Ireland.

The Co. Clare town triumphed over Roscommon and Kildare for the title of cleanest town in Ireland for 2017.

On behalf of Irish Businesses Against Litter, (IBAL) An Taisce surveyed 25 towns and a further 15 city areas across the country to determine where the least litter was.

Ennis came out on top, with Kildare and Roscommon following closely behind.

Many of Ireland’s towns and cities including Longford, Leixlip, Tallaght, and Balbriggan were deemed cleaner than European norms.

Athlone, Waterford city, Castlebar, Limerick city, Bray, and Dundalk were all as clean as European norms, while Galway city, Tralee, Dublin city centre, and Navan were deemed mostly littered.

Ennis is to receive a €40,000 public sculpture to mark the town’s win.
