Coachella ‘to move to October’ amid coronavirus fears

Coachella is reportedly set to move to October amid coronavirus fears.

The festival, which takes place in Indio, California, was set to take place across the weekends of April 10-12 and April 17-19.

However, Billboard and Variety both report that officials are working on a place to move the festival to consecutive weeks in October, instead.

Promoters are also said to be looking at moving Stagecoach, a country music festival, until October as well. It has been due to take place at the same grounds, from April 24-26.

No official statement has been released yet, although sources told Billboard that the festival organisers should know in around 48 hours if the festivals can go ahead at the later date – otherwise, they are likely to be cancelled.

As of Monday afternoon local time, six Riverside County residents had tested positive for coronavirus.

According to USA Today, two of the people are being quarantined at home in the Coachella Valley, while two others are being treated at hospitals in the area. The two others are being treated outside the county.

The publication report that there are currently more than 100 people in Riverside County who are in self-isolation at the moment because of possible exposure.

It comes as a number of high profile festivals have been called off in 2020.

On Friday, it was announced that the Austin-best South by Southwest festival had been cancelled for 2020. Ultra Music Festival in Miami has also been called off.
