It’s reported that actor Colin Farrell has gone to a rehab facility after staying sober for over a decade.

Colin is thought to have checked himself into the Meadows clinic in Arizona in the US after 12 years of sobriety.

The luxury clinic has hosted a number of other high-profile names including Kate Moss, Selena Gomez, Tiger Woods and Kevin Spacey.

Rather than after a relapse, he made the move as a preventative measure, a source told The Daily Mail.

The Castleknock native, who has a well-documented history of drug and alcohol abuse, is said to have sought out help before turning to substances again.

He previously went to rehab in 2005 in a bid to tackle his addictions to recreational drugs and painkillers.

“We all know that Colin is an addict, he’s had 12 years of sobriety,’ the source said.

“He was overwhelmed for the past year and the urges started to come back with being so busy at work and he felt, eventually, out of control and thought maybe he should get ahead of it before he starts using again.

“He decided to pre-emptively check himself in before it went to a bad place. He didn’t want to go down that rabbit hole again.”

Colin has spoken openly about addiction in recent years, previously telling The Mirror that he’d developed a “high tolerance” for certain drugs.

“I’d gotten out of control – for years I could indulge in certain things,” he said.

“I had quite a high tolerance for various drugs for years, I thought. It accumulated to the point where I couldn’t put my foot on the brake anymore.”
