Ever wondered what any future unborn offspring of yours might look like?

Plenty of us have used those apps that mash photos of your and your partner’s faces together to produce a mock-up baby’s face, only for the app to come up with what looks like a Sims baby with a beard.

Now, there might be a better way.

A startup in the US is claiming it can use DNA to tell you not only what your future child might look like but also how he or she will act.

BabyGlimpse, a test devised by Denver-based company HumanCode, takes samples of two people’s DNA and puts together a prediction of some of the baby’s characteristics, including what it could look like and even its tastes and preferences.

Unlike genetic screening, which highlights potential health issues, the test focuses on the ‘lighter’ side of your future baby’s genetic makeup, according to HumanCode co-founder Jennifer Descale.

“We’ve coined it sunshine science,” she told the Balitmore Sun.

“You get to look at the fun part of your potential future baby versus some of the scary stuff.”

The BabyGlimpse website further clarifies that it’s designed as a “fun and informational experience, not a medical test.”

Genetic screening itself is controversial, due to the perception that it could encourage ‘designer babies’, but BabyGlimpse doesn’t appear to go too deep.

As you might have guessed, it doesn’t come cheap either.

A test costs $259.98 (€212.75) though HumanCode currently has it on offer for $99.98 (€81.82). You can check out the website here.
