Tests are being carried out on hundreds of birds after they were found dead on a country road in Wales.

The 225 starlings were found dead on the road in Anglesey this week, seemingly with no explanation as to how they had perished.

North Wales Police discovered the “very strange” sight on Tuesday. They said it appeared as though the birds had “dropped down dead from the sky.”

BBC News reports that police do not yet know how they birds ended up dead.

Dafydd Edwards said that his partner Hannah Stevens saw the birds flying in the sky on Tuesday afternoon.

“She said she saw hundreds of them flying over and thought it looked amazing,” he said, “but on her way back around an hour later they were all dead in the road.”

Stevens added that she saw the birds on the road eating something before they died.

“I counted 150 last night but I gave up as there’s just hundreds of them littered everywhere,” she said. “It’s as if they just dropped down dead from the sky.”

The birds have been collected by the Animal and Plant Health Agency for testing to determine how they died.

“This is obviously very concerning for us and we will await the test results,” said a spokesperson from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB).

“It would be inappropriate for us to speculate as to how they have died.”
