A convicted paedophile told police he killed Madeleine McCann

A convicted British paedophile has admitted he wasted police time during the search for Madeleine McCann.

Aaron Collis, a former nursery and play centre worker who was caged in 2009 after being convicted of sex offences against 22 children as young as 18 months old, has launched a website on which he attempts to explain his behaviour.

The 31-year-old admits he attempted to contact the McCann family and claimed killed Madeleine after first seeing her in France in 2007.

Madeleine disappeared on the evening of May 3, 2007 from her bed in a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz in the Algarve, Portugal.

According to Cambridge News, The Met Police were forced to divert attention away from the search for the three-year-old in order to investigate Collis’ claims.

Collis, who was jailed in 2009, told the News: “I was doing it to mess them around because I enjoyed it. I still do find it funny.”

The convicted paedophile, who says there should be more support available for criminals like him, claims he has now been sectioned under the Mental Health Act and is being held at a secure hospital.
