Funeral of Cork toddler takes place after choking accident

The funeral of two-year-old Joshua Odonkor has taken place in Cork.

The young boy sadly passed away after choking on a piece of fruit at his family’s home in Skibbereen, West Cork.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after he choked on a grape, but it was too late to save Joshua.

His family alerted emergency services shortly after 9 pm on January 25th.

Gardaí are treating Joshua’s untimely passing as a “tragic accident”.

A postmortem has taken place at Cork University Hospital.

An inquest will take place at a later date.

Joshua is survived by his parents Philomena and Moses. He is also survived by his loving brother Emmanuel.

“Lovingly remembered by his heartbroken parents, brother, relatives, neighbours, and friends.”

The local community has rallied around his family following the harrowing accident.

Mourners gathered at Hurley & O’Sullivan’s Funeral Home on Saturday, January 28th.

Joshua was then laid to rest at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Coronea, Skibbereen.

Joshua’s family only moved to the area recently.

Locals paid tribute to Joshua following his tragic death.

One said, “My deepest sympathy to Philomena Moses and Emmanuel on the heartbreaking tragedy of losing your beautiful happy little boy.”

Another added, “My deepest heartfelt sympathy to you all on the tragic loss of your beautiful baby boy. May you find the strength to carry on in the dark days ahead.”
