There is an “epidemic of crows” in Limerick at the moment.

A councillor has spoken out against the birds which he says are “flying low” to move calves away from nuts in fields and destroying hay bales.

The Independent’s Farm Ireland reports that Cllr Eddie Ryan has described the crows as “an epidemic.”

The councillor has also claimed that the crow population has tripped over recent years and that they are a “nuisance.”

This comes just four years after a “plague” of 60,000 crows began descending on a city in Ohio every night.

Residents of the city, Springfield, resorted to using laser pointers and sound machines to deter the birds from their homes and businesses.

The birds were described as “dirty” due to the droppings they left everywhere and the noise pollution they caused.

The town said they would spend “as long as it takes” to run the crows out of the city.

A not dissimilar situation was portrayed in Alfred Hitchcock’s 1963 movie, The Birds where a large swarm of crows attacked a seaside town in California for no apparent reason.

Many characters in the film died as a result of the attack.
