Adrianne Haslet Davies was cheering near the finish line of the Boston marathon when the second bomb planted by the Tsarnaev brothers exploded, leaving the then 33-year-old so injured that her left leg was amputated below the knee.

Almost two years later, she has announced that she will be running in the marathon on April 18th to help raise money for Limbs For Life, and organisation that provides prosthetic limbs to those who can’t afford the massive expense.

According to ABCNews, Davies is currently training for the event using a carbon fibre blade and can run 10 miles. She announced her plans on American tv channel, Hallmark last Tuesday.

‘I knew it would be powerful if I were able to do that- not only for myself but for other amputees who are saying, “I can’t do this or that.”‘

Since the bombings in 2014, she has returned to her career as a professional ballroom dancer, Sports Illustrated reports.
