Although it’s sad that Christmas has ended and we’ve said goodbye to another year, it does mean one thing – a fresh start with a new year and lots of Bank Holidays to go with it.

We had hoped that the proposed two extra Bank Holidays would come to fruition but, alas, they have not. Not to worry, though, there are still plenty to make the most of.

Here are the Bank Holidays dates in the Republic of Ireland and in Northern Ireland.

Republic of Ireland – Bank Holiday Dates 2017

There are 9 public holidays in Ireland each year. ROI Public holidays may commemorate a special day or other event, for example, St Patrick’s Day (17th March) or Christmas Day (25th December).

New Year’s Day – 2nd January

St Patrick’s Day – 17th March

Good Friday – 14th April

Easter Sunday – 16th April

Easter Monday – 17th April

May Day Bank Holiday – 1st May

June Bank Holiday – 5th June

August Bank Holiday – 7th August

October Bank Holiday – 30th October

Christmas Day Bank Holiday – 25th December

St. Stephen’s Day Bank Holiday – 26th December

Northern Ireland – Bank Holiday Dates 2017

There are laws that allow the dates of bank holidays to be changed, or other holidays to be declared, for example to celebrate special occasions.

New Year’s Day – 2nd January

St Patrick’s Day – 17th March

Good Friday – 14th April

Easter Monday – 17th April

Early May Bank Holiday – 1st May

Spring Bank Holiday – 29th May

Battle of the Boyne – 12th July

Summer Bank Holiday – 28th August
