Donald Trump begins publishing lists of alleged ‘crimes by immigrants’

The US president plans to release weekly publications of alleged ‘crimes by immigrants’.

On Monday the Trump administration began publishing the lists detailing crimes committed by undocumented released inmates that refuse to cooperate in deportation bids.

They don’t include names, but they do include nationality, where the crime was committed and date of detainment. The list also delves into particulars of convictions, and whether or not the person has been charged with any other notable criminal activity.

Here’s an example of one section of the publication.

According to the NY Daily News these lists of ‘declined detainers’ prove that uncooperative cities are releasing ‘dangerous criminals’ into the streets.

The information will be updated weekly by the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE),  Acting Director of the ICE Thomas Homan has defended the publications:

“When law enforcement agencies fail to honor immigration detainers and release serious criminal offenders, it undermines ICE’s ability to protect the public safety and carry out its mission,”

Nisha Agarwal is New York City’s Immigration Affairs Commissioner she insists that they are handing over inmates convicted of serious crimes but that they will NOT co-operate with defendants charged with minor offences, saying people need to feel comfortable interacting with law enforcement.

The lists stem from an executive order issued by Trump promising public safety within the United States of America.
