Dreaming of a white Easter? Well… Here comes the SNOW!

Here we go again!

Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow weather warning ahead of the Easter weekend.

So while Ireland may not have gotten a white Christmas last December – it seems a white Easter of sorts might just be in the offing.

Yes the country is set to be hit by low temperatures, heavy showers, and even wintry falls of sleet and snow on Easter Sunday right through to Monday morning.

The warning was issued at 3pm on Friday and comes into effect at 6am on Sunday, remaining in place until 6pm on Easter Monday.

“A band of heavy rain in southern counties on Sunday night, will extend northwards overnight and during Monday, turning wintry with falls of sleet and snow in some areas,” Met Éireann states.

Gardaí have furthermore advised drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads this weekend – not least as there were several road collisions and incidents during the Good Friday evening rush-hour.

A garda statement reads: “Hailshowers pose significant risks to road users particularly on motorways.

“Drivers on motorways need to be vigilant and ready to stop when and if necessary and they need to be able to stop the vehicle safely in order to avoid collisions.

“Hailshowers have resulted in multi-vehicle crashes recently. Please drive to the conditions, reduce your speed and increase your braking distance.”

On Thursday evening, another weather warning had been issued for Friday.
