Dublin Bus will stop giving out fare refund receipts very soon.

The company has said that those travelling with the service who pay more than their fare will no longer receive a ‘refund due’ receipt.

These refund receipts are currently redeemable at Dublin Bus’s head office on O’Connell Street, but from September 9 they will no longer be issued.

RTE reports that customers will instead be given an ‘extra payment’ receipt.

This will not be redeemable.

Any surplus fare paid will now go towards improving Dublin Bus services, as well as the company’s Community Spirit Awards.

The move comes as the National Transport Authority (NTA) aims to introduce a cashless fare system across all buses in the city under the upcoming BusConnect programme.

The company is hoping that all passengers will be using Leap Cards by 2020.
