Dublin student dies after falling from Cliffs of Moher while trying to take a selfie

A Dublin student lost their life after falling from the Cliffs of Moher in Co Clare yesterday evening.

The man who reportedly studied at the University of Dublin was visiting the popular attraction when tragedy struck at approximately 3:15pm.

The incident is said to have occured near the visitor centre, south of the main viewing area. Rescue 115 and the Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard were alerted and on the scene once the alarm was raised by visitors on the cliff walk.

Rescue 115 reportedly found and transported the body to the local Coast Guard Station in Doolin where a doctor prononced the man dead.

A Garda spokesman spoke to The Irish Times saying:

“There is nothing to suggest at this stage that this was anything other than a tragic accident. Initial indications are, having taken statements from a number of people, is that the victim was taking a selfie and lost his footing.”

The incident remains under investigation.
