Early forecast indicates dry, chilly and settled weather for Christmas Day

No sign of a White Christmas just yet, but we’ll take it.

In a week of multiple weather warnings and the west coast taking a pretty severe battering from Storm Elsa, it will come as welcome news that Christmas week is shaping up to be more serene on the weather front.

According to the latest Met Éireann forecast, high pressure building towards Ireland will lead to an increased likelihood of “dry, chilly and settled” weather for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Met Éireann has warned that, six days out from the big day, there remains a high degree of uncertainty in the forecast, but the signs are promising all the same.

After widespread wind and rain in recent days, conditions will become cooler approaching the weekend, dropping to as low as -1 on Thursday night, no higher than 8 degrees during the day on Friday and hovering around freezing once again on consecutive nights from Friday to Sunday.

In between, there will be scattered showers, particularly in the west of the country on Sunday, but also plenty of clear spells, which should help facilitate the needs of the many last-minute shoppers throughout the country over the weekend.
