Irish swimmer Ellen Walshe has snatched up the silver medal in the 400m Individual Medley at the World Short Course Championships in Abu Dhabi.

Not only did she secure the silver medal, but Ellen also managed to smash the Irish record twice while doing so.

The Dublin native was one of the seven who took part in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and broke the longest standing Irish record in the heats, swimming with a time of 4:30.78, finishing fourth fastest qualifier for the final.

That record only lasted a matter of hours as Ellen managed to crush it again when it came to the final, winning silver in a time of 4:26.52, followed by Canada’s Tessa Cieplucha who won gold.

Not only is Ellen making strides, but fellow swimmer Mona McSharry has also broken an Irish record in the 50m Breaststroke final.

Qualifying for Friday’s final in a time of 29.65 seconds, heading to the finals as the third fastest overall.
