A “five-day” status yellow weather warning is now in place as temperatures are set to plummet to -7 degrees.
With heavy snow and bitter temperatures expected to take over the country, homeless charities across Ireland are making sure there are extra beds available for rough sleepers.
The Dublin Region Homeless Executive (DRHE) said it activated its “extreme weather protocol” yesterday, to make sure everyone gets the chance to stay warm during this week.
“A yellow weather warning indicates that the weather is not threatening to the general population, but can pose a risk for people exposed to the weather,” a spokesperson said.
“The DRHE is fully aware of the potential impact that this type of weather can have on people sleeping rough.”
In other places, Housing First teams are helping to source out and inform long-term rough sleepers of the services available throughout the cold spell, reveals The Independent.
This morning, An Garda Síochána shared an image of the snow in Cork reminding motorists to reduce their speed and exercise caution.
The AA has also urged “extreme caution” this morning, reporting slippery conditions across the country, particularly in the north-west.
