FAIL: It Seems Enda Kenny Thinks the Minimum Wage is €35,000 Per Year

It’s yet another face palm moment for the government at a time of crisis. 

Taoiseach Enda Kenny appeared on RTÉ’s Nine News last night to discuss changes to the water charges as announced in yesterday’s Dáil.

“…It should also be said Eileen, if I may say so that the average worker, a single worker on the minimum wage of 35,000 is going to get back €400 in the income tax returns starting in January…”

Taking in to account an average working week of 39 hours, 52 weeks a year, the actual minimum wage in Ireland is €17,542, almost exactly half the figure named by our Taoiseach.
