The ‘Fair City’ set could be on the move as RTÉ sells land at Montrose

Niamh Maher

RTÉ has put almost nine acres of it’s Montrose base up for sale.

The asking price is a cool €75Million and the move means the set of popular soap Fair City could have to move. The sale of a portion of land at the Dublin headquarters has been on the cards for some time in order to tackle burgeoning debt at the national broadcaster.

RTÉ has occupied its 32-acre site in Donnybrook since 1961, back in November the new Director General Dee Forbes told the Oireachtas Communications Committee the broadcaster was under “very serious financial strain” which had been exacerbated by a drop in broadcasting advertising in the wake of the Brexit vote last June.

Property consultants Savills, who are handling the sale, described the land as being in one of the city’s most prestigious and high-value residential locations.

It’s thought the land could be used to build up to 500 housing units subject to planning permission.
