There was a 0.6% drop in the number of people signing on to the Live Register between July and August this year.
Last year, there were 359,076 people registering for unemployment assistance from the state, and this year that number has fallen.
According to the Central Statistics Office, there were 316,296 unadjusted people signing on in August, an annual decrease of 42,780.
There were apparent discrepancies between men and women signing on this year so far. There was an annual drop of 14.3% for men bringing the total of men who are on the Live Register to 178,638.
There was a decrease of 8.6% for women, culminating in a total of 137,658.
The number of long term claimants on the Live Register fell in August by 14.6 % people. The current figure is 140,346.

In the year to August the number of people aged under 25 on the Live Register has fallen by 20.8% or 10,357. According to the CSO, annual decreases in persons aged under 25 have occurred in all months since July 2010. Under 25’s now amount to 12.5% people on the Live Register.
The occupation with the highest amount of people on the Live Register currently falls into the Craft and related group, who account for 17.3%, despite the fact that the number in the group fell over the year by 10,846 (-16.5%) to 54,859.
