Gardaí are this evening waiting to interview the mother of a three-year-old found fatally stabbed in Dublin yesterday.

The woman, who is in her 40s and a doctor, is recovering from serious-but-not-life-threatening knife wounds. The woman was originally from the Middle East and she lived apart from the child's father. The State broadcaster adds that officers were called to the Riverside Apartments in the Kimmage area of Dublin at around 7pm last night when neighbours became alarmed by noises and "sounds of distress" coming from the one-bed apartment the woman and her toddler son shared. https://twitter.com/rtenews/status/884652110599598083 The little boy was dead when emergency services arrived. One neighbour, named as Lorraine Leon, has lived in the area for 26 years. She said in conversation also with DublinLive.ie: "God she was mad about the child. She would have spoke to all the Kimmage Road about what he was doing and his latest tricks, so it's very shocking, totally mind-blowing."
