A father and girlfriend have been found guilty of causing the death of six-year-old Arthur Labinjo-Hughes.

Emma Tustin was found guilty of murdering the six-year-old today, while her partner and Arthur’s father, Thomas Hughes, was convicted of manslaughter.

Arthur died in 2020 after suffering an “unsurvivable brain injury.” The child was found to have 130 different injuries on his body at the time of his death.

Sky News reports that Tustin and Hughes were described as “wicked” and “evil” by Arthur’s maternal grandmother, Madeleine Halcrow, in Coventry Crown Court today.

“I think they are cold, calculating, systematic torturers of a defenceless little boy. They’re wicked, evil. There’s no word for them, especially your own child,” she said.

Arthur died last June due to a brain injury he suffered while in the care of Tustin at her home in Solihull, West Midlands.

Tustin waited 12 minutes before phoning emergency services, telling them that the six-year-old had “banged his head.” She later claimed that he had fallen down the stairs.

Hughes was later accused of encouraging the assault, which he denied. Both were also found guilty on multiple other child abuse counts.
