#FEMPOWER 2016 – Feminist Conference In Dublin This Weekend

The conference will be hosted by Senator Katherine Zappone

Ellen Tannam

A day of empowerment, storytelling and action for women’s equality will be held on January 16th, 2016 in Tallaght Stadium

The event, helmed by Independent Senator and general election candidate Katherine Zappone will see speakers such as journalist Una Mullally, Lynn Ruane (TCD Students Union President) and Moninne Griffith, executive director of BelongTo taking part.

In the wake of the significant feminist events such as FemFest organised by the National Women’s Council of Ireland and the #WakingTheFeminists movement demanding gender equality in the arts, #FEMPOWER aims to keep up the current momentum surrounding women’s issues with some of Ireland’s most brilliant and inspiring feminist speakers.

The event, which is due to have over 300 attendees, will gather women of all backgrounds together to discuss the role that feminism has played in all of their lives. Topics will range from education, leadership, and childcare to body image, consent and the eighth amendment.

A feminist fair will follow the series of talks, with feminist and women’s organisations presenting their latest publications and work, and hopefully recruiting new volunteers.

The day aims to be a celebration of women’s achievements, and will be inspiring and  galvanising to those who seek to make further progress in the area of women’s rights.

Although the event is sold out and there are 200 people on the waiting list, you can find details of live stream here in the coming days.
