Quiz champion CJ de Mooi has opened up about living with AIDS.

CJ, who became best known for his regular appearances on BBC 2 quiz show Eggheads, said that he fears he is running out of time after living with the disease for three decades.

“I’ve been living with AIDS for 30 years but the agony of the last 3 years means I may not have many left,” he tweeted yesterday.

“I’m outwardly healthy, still running and am staying positive I can get better.

“Thank you all for your love and if I can do anything to help any of you, please just ask.”

The quiz show contributor ran into financial difficulty when he faced a false allegation of sexual assault.

He was dropped from Eggheads in the midst of the scandal but his name was eventually cleared.

A crowdfunding campaign has been set up online to help CJ to avoid homelessness.

He was declared bankrupt in September of last year and he now faces losing his home, according to a friend who set up the page for CJ.

“He has said, done and written nothing wrong, broken no law and committed no offence,” the page reads.

“However, he is bankrupt, extremely ill and in imminent danger of losing his house. Let’s help him as he always helps others.”

CJ lives with his husband of three years in Monmouth in England.

The page states that all money collected will go to CJ’s solicitor.

At the time of writing, £4,533 of the page’s £15,000 goal has been raised.
