An autopsy was expected to take place by Spanish authorities yesterday.

Kasia Gallanio, who was married to a senior member of the royal family in Qatar, has been found dead in her home in Marbella, Spain.

An autopsy was expected to take place by Spanish authorities yesterday.

The 45-year-old was the third wife of Abdelaziz bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who is the uncle of the Emir of Qatar.

According to the French newspaper Le Parisien, her body was discovered on Sunday morning, with evidence suggesting she suffered an overdose. There were no signs of any physical violence.

Ms Gallanio was of American and Polish descent. She married the Emir’s uncle in 2004 after meeting him in Paris. Al-Thani moved to France following a coup, which left him exiled as his brother ascended the throne of Qatar.

During their marriage, the couple had three daughters – twins, who are now aged 17 and a 15-year-old girl. They divorced in 2012, and Ms Gallanio subsequently moved to Marbella, Spain.

The past few years have seen a custody battle between Gallanio and Mr Al-Thani, with the former being denied custody. Additionally, as Le Parisien reports, a police investigation into aggravated sexual assault against Mr Al-Thani was reportedly launched last year, following accusations from one of his daughters.

Mr Al-Thani has denied these allegations.
