Frost, ice and rain… Met Éireann say were in for an absolutely rotten day

Olivia Hayes

It’ll start off grand, but the end of the day is not looking good.

Met Éireann is predicting that we’re in for a day or rain, frost and ice. The weather forecaster says that while this morning will be mild enough, come night it will hit freezing point.

It said for today: “Generally cloudy and misty this morning with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle, but some drier and brighter intervals also.

“Becoming breezier over the much of the country this afternoon with further spells of rain and drizzle moving in off the Atlantic, with the odd heavy burst in places. Mild with highs of 10 to 13 degrees Celsius in freshening southwesterly winds.”

While tonight we’re in for: “Patchy mist and drizzle early tonight, with a heavy spell of rain moving up over much of the southern half of the country later.

“Coldest under clearer skies in the north where some frost and icy stretches will develop. Lowest temperatures will range 0 to 6 degrees Celsius north to south. Southwesterly breezes will decrease light and variable in most places overnight, but will continue fresh and gusty near the south coast.”
