Gardaí appeal for man with bandaged hand following fatal assault of woman (20s) in Limerick

Gardaí are searching for a man spotted entering a shop with a bandaged hand before washing his hands in the store following the fatal assault of a woman in Limerick.

The body of a woman in her 20s was discovered on Tuesday inside an apartment block on Dock Road, just off O’Curry Street, around 1.30pm.

Gardaí have said that the woman died following a “fatal assault” but did not disclose further details about her injuries.

A garda forensic unit has conducted a technical examination of the scene and investigators have called the office of the State Pathologist to perform a post-mortem.

Officials have said they have interviewed staff in the shop a man was seen in and removed several items from there for investigation. The shop is close to the location the tragedy took place.

The man is said to have entered the store with one of his hands wrapped in a makeshift bandage before washing his hands and leaving again.

Gardaí are looking to speak to him in order to rule him in or out of their line of enquiry.

A garda spokesman said: “An Garda Siochana does not comment on specifics of onlooking investigations.”

Gardaí are also appeal for any witnesses to come forward and ask that “anyone who has camera footage from the Dock Road and O’Curry street areas of Limerick City from 1:00pm – 2:00pm” would contact investigating gardai at Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
