Gardaí discovered approximately 5 kilos of TNT explosive in Dublin on Friday night, according to reports.
Explosives and detonators were found in a seven-seater taxi on Spring Garden Street, Ballybough in Dublin yesterday evening, after which the area was cleared for several hours while the Army Bomb Disposal team secured the area.
The Defence Forces are now analysing the explosives before they are handed over to the Gardaí as evidence, according to RTÉ.
Gardaí also said that they do not believe the discovery is related to gang warfare in Dublin and that the explosives were likely to be used in dissident activity in Northern Ireland.
Two men are currently being held for questioning about the discovery.
