Gardaí give update on woman reportedly assaulted on Luas as second person is arrested

A second man has been arrested after a woman was allegedly assaulted on the red Luas line earlier this week.

Reports have claimed that a woman was hit by something that was thrown by a man as he was getting off the tram at Jervis Luas stop at around 11.30am on Tuesday morning in Dublin.

A second man said to be in his 20s was arrested on Thursday in relation to the incident.

He has since been charged with public order offences and is expected to appear in court at a later date.

A man in his 30s was arrested on the day of the incident and was also charged with public order offences, with a garda spokeswoman confirming that he is also due in court at a later date.

Gardaí are now appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, urging them to come forward with information.

Anyone who was travelling by Luas on Tuesday morning and witnessed the incident is asked to contact Store Street Garda station 01 666 8000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

A garda spokesperson confirmed this morning: “Gardaí in Store Street investigating an alleged assault, that took place on the red Luas line on Tuesday, 20th December 2022 at approximately 11:30 am, have arrested a second man.

“The man, aged in his 20s, was arrested yesterday, Thursday 22nd December 2022. He has since been charged with public order offences and is due to appear before a court soon.

“Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.”
