Gardaí are investigating a failed attempt to abduct a schoolboy.
According to
The Independent, the incident occurred on Sunday night in the village of Kerrykeel on the Fanad peninsula.
According to reports, a man pulled up to the boy who was on his bike, and asked him to get in the vehicle.
The boy sped home and told his parents immediately. The man spoke in a Donegal accent and was wearing a hoody.
"We would ask parents to advise children not to speak to anyone they don't know and not to take lifts from anyone they don't know," said Supt David Kelly.
A similar incident occurred in Donegal earlier this year.
According to
Donegal Daily, a man driving 'a red transporter van' approached two school girls and offered to buy them sweets.
The children's grandmother was with them but she was a few steps behind when the incident happened near Drumkeen.
While picking up a toy belonging to her grandchild, she could see that a stranger had approached the children and shouted out immediately.
The man, described as clean-shaven and in his 60s, sped off when he heard the adult voice.
