Gardaí have launched an investigation after the bodies of a woman and an infant boy were discovered in Dublin.
The woman's body was found on the Lower Road, Strawberry Beds, Lucan, Co. Dublin and the infant boy was found in a house nearby. Gardaí are currently treating the death of the infant as unexplained.
Following reports of a pedestrian seen acting suspiciously at the M50 toll plaza bridge early this morning, Gardaí discovered the woman's remains.
Gardaí then went to a house in Lucan where a seven-month-old baby boy was found in an unresponsive condition. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident is currently being treated as a family tragedy. Gardaí are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths.
The body of the infant has since been removed to Crumlin Hospital and the body of the woman has been removed to the City Morgue where post-mortem examinations will be carried out.
An incident room has be established at Lucan Garda Station and a technical examination of the scene has taken place.
The results of post-mortem examinations will determine the course of the investigation.
