Harvey Weinstein has been arrested after handing himself into New York police this morning.

The disgraced movie producer was charged with a first and third degree rape in one case and a first degree criminal sex act in a second case.

Weinstein allegedly raped one woman and forced another to perform oral sex on him.

Weinstein has “unequivocally denied” any allegations of rape.

CNN reports that Weinstein handed himself into New York police this morning.

He appeared at the New York police precinct office alongside his lawyers carrying a stack of books.

This comes months after dozens of women accused Weinstein of rape, sexual assault, and sexual misconduct.

Among them were Rose McGowan, Angelina Jolie, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

This eventually led to a number of other powerful men in Hollywood and elsewhere facing similar accusations.

These included Dustin Hoffman, Ed Westwick, and Louis C.K.

The NYPD have thanked the “brave survivors for their courage to come forward.”

They released a full statement, saying:

“Today, at the NYPD’s 1st Precinct, Harvey Weinstein was arrested, processed and charged with Rape, Criminal Sex Act, Sex Abuse and Sexual Misconduct for incidents involving two separate women.

“The NYPD thanks these brave survivors for their courage to come forward and seek justice.  The arrest and ensuing charges are the result of a joint investigation between the NYPD and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.”
