The disruption started this afternoon.

Heathrow Airport – the UK’s busiest airport – has been sent into chaos after a suspicious bag was found in its Terminal 2 building.

Videos and photos circulating on social media shows armed police making their way into the airport and large crowds of passengers being stopped before they enter the security screening area.

After many customers complained on Twitter, Heathrow responded saying that the security gates have now reopened as the “incident” has been cleared.

It said: “Earlier today, we worked with the Met police to respond to an incident in Terminal 2 which temporarily affected security processing lanes.

“Our security lanes are now open and passengers are being processed through as normal.

“The safety of our passengers and colleagues is our absolute priority and we apologise to those passengers whose journeys were impacted as we responded to this incident.”

Meanwhile, MET Police said: “Assessment of luggage item by specialist officers now complete. Nothing untoward.

“Terminal 2 zone that was being looked at by police will be reopened shortly. Thank you for your patience.”
