‘Heavy rain and gales’… Met Éireann say the weather is going to be manky today

Olivia Hayes

Bring your umbrella because it looks like we’re in for a downpour.

Met Éireann has predicted we’re in for a day and night of heavy rain across the country. Temperatures won’t be too bad, reaching up to 13 degrees, however they will drop today.

The weather forecaster said: “Mostly cloudy this morning with outbreaks of rain accompanied by drizzle and mist. The rain will ease and become patchy with good dry spells developing.

“A few sunny spells too in the north and west. Highest temperatures 11 to 13 degrees. Southwest winds will freshen and heavier rain will return to the south and west this evening.”

And this is what tonight is looking like: “Heavy rain and southwest gales will quickly extend countrywide early tonight. Some severe gusts will occur in places – especially in the north and west. Rain will clear to frequent blustery showers overnight. Some showers squally with hail. Lowest temperatures 4 to 7 degrees.”

There’s still a yellow wind warning in place for Connacht, Cavan, Donegal, Clare, Kerry and Limerick, with wind speeds between 55 to 65km/h and gusts of 90 to 110km/h.

The weather warning is in place until 9am tomorrow morning.
