Homophobic graffiti painted on wall near Pantibar days after reopening

Ellen Fitzpatrick

The bar reopened last week.

Homophobic graffiti has been plastered on a building two doors up from Pantibar only days after reopening.

Panti Bliss, who owns Pantibar, took to Instagram today to share the awful graffiti that was put on a wall near the Capel Street bar.

Panti Bliss said in the post: “We had a fantastic re-opening weekend, and then this was painted on the building two doors up from Pantibar last night.”

Along with this, the picture showed the graffiti to say “pedo bar” and an arrow pointing towards the pub.

Friends, fans and other local businesses were just as horrified by the act as Pantibliss was, and came to her support in the comments.

TV presenter Alan Hughes said: “And we think we have come so far.”

The Lemon Jelly Cafe on the Millenium Walkway said: “We have come a long way but still further to go.”

And one fan added: “Hope there’s CCTV to catch whoever did this, this is horrible.”

Replying to a user on Twitter, Panti Bliss said that the bar’s CCTV wouldn’t have been in range to catch the perpetrators but the graffiti was left on Etsy’s wall, so their CCTV may show it and they have been notified.

Panti Bliss didn’t say if she knew who had done this, or if the Gardaí were involved, but did say in a another tweet that someone is on their way to remove the graffiti.

The wall has since been painted over by DublinTown, with the homophobic words covered up and pride flags hung out the windows in solidarity.

Panti shared the update, saying: “The graffiti I posted earlier was painted on our neighbor @etsy’s building.
Here’s the “after pic”. Thank you Etsy! X.”

Pantibar is an LGBTQ+ bar in Dublin’s city centre, owned by drag queen and longtime “national treasure” Panti Bliss.
