A welcomed decision.

Minister for Health Simon Harris has announced that the Government with complete a review of the hospital parking fees in Ireland in order to introduce a national policy.

At present, each hospital decides how much they will change per day and per hour for visitors using the parking facilities. Last year alone a total of €13 million was collected from all public hospitals for parking.

In order to establish a national guideline for all public hospitals to adhere to, the government will conduct the review.

Commenting on the decision, Donal Buggy, from the Irish Cancer Society, told Breaking News:

“Car parking charges are one of the things that are within our control in the health system and it would be very welcome to have national standards, national guidelines to inform policy for hospitals.

Also to have a system which is more compassionate for people who are ill and for people who have to visit hospitals on a regular basis over a period of time.”
