A heartbroken widower died of a heart attack just hours after losing his wife of 40 years.
According to The Daily Record the widower told his daughter, “I can’t live without your mum” before dying just hours later.
Bridget (79) an Richard Turnbull (75) had been married for almost 40 years. They first met at a dance where he vowed that he would marry her.
“And that was that,” their daughter Teresa said. “They were never apart from that night on.”
The couple wed in December 1975.
Bridget, who was from Connemara, Co. Galway, died peacefully at their home in Scotland after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Her husband Richard passed away shortly after in hospital from a heart attack – just 17 hours after her death.
“My mum was the typical strong Irish woman who nursed my dad after he had diabetes. We only found out mum was ill in August. She’d had a sore back that she put down to her time on the buses, but it was pancreatic cancer, which only has a six per cent survival rate.
“He (Richard) said to me, ‘I can’t live without your mum.’ I said, ‘You’ll be alright’ but he said, ‘No, I can’t live without her’.”
The couple were laid to rest at a joint funeral service.
