A date for his next trial hasn’t been set yet.

A cross-party delegation of Irish politicians met with Egyptian president Abdel Fattah el-Sisi regarding the ongoing imprisonment of  Irishman Ibrahim Halawa and the talks appear to be very positive.

The Press Association have confirmed that the Egyptian President has confirmed to an Oireachtas delegation that Halawa will be released/returned home as soon as his trial ends.

The Dubliner has been detained in Egypt for over three-and-a-half years and has had 17 different court dates postponed.

Halawa , who is from Firhouse in Dublin, was arrested when he was 17 for protesting the ousting of the then-president Mohamed Morsi in Cairo.
