Baby name inspiration really can come from anywhere, and to prove this point, IKEA Norway recently published a baby name inspiration guide with over 800 monikers that are inspired by the brand’s numerous furniture offerings.
Published on the IKEA Norway website, the A-Z 'Name Directory' takes inspiration from popular products sold over the years. From a wooden table (Fredrik), to a vintage light from 1952 (Aladin) and a chest of drawers (Nelson), there are names for everyone to choose from. Parents-to-be will also find an image situated alongside each baby name, showing which product it has been named after.
'Finding the name of the child can be both difficult and fun. We at IKEA have given names to products for more than 70 years,' the Swedish retailer writes. 'So, if you are completely stuck, or just want some inspiration - here you will find over 800 boy names and girl names. Everything from popular Ivar to more rare names like Moalie.'
According to IKEA Norway, the name directory comes after a recent baby boom in the Scandinavian country.
"In Norway, almost 3,000 more children were born in 2021 than the year before, which is an increase of over 5 percent, and it presents challenges in finding unique names,' Apartment Therapy report.
With Scandinavian names like Søren and Freya becoming increasingly popular in the U.S., the baby names culled by this mega, Swedish-born brand might just be worth looking at and adding to your list. P
lus, for interiors fans, many of the names come with fun visuals of the furnishings they correspond to—from mid-century IKEA designs up to the 2020s.
